The different materials

Tiles (generally called slabs) are mainly used for ground floor or outdoor spaces. As these materials are heavy, they are rarely used for house floors. Natural stone such as granite, slate, marble or limestone and quartz have a much longer lifespan than any other material and offer a very aesthetic and high quality finish. As a result, the price follows the quality and the prices are much higher than for other types of tiles.

The granite

A very resistant magmatic rock with a granular appearance, granite is one of the most popular materials. Its beautiful natural appearance after polishing coupled with its scratch resistance to heat and its non-slip properties make granite a safe choice. However, as its extraction is difficult, its price is high accordingly.

Advantages

  • Almost infinite durability
  • Scratch-resistant
  • Resists high heat
  • Frost and moisture resistant
  • Anti-slip
  • Very nice appearance

Disadvantages

  • Its high weight (50 kg per m²)
  • Its high price
